The obstetrics and gynecology department and infertility in particular is the most researched one where technology has a lot to play. It has given the emerging hopes of the society turn into reality. Infertility, delayed fertility and complicated pregnancies are dealt with so smoothly and efficiently that the population has trusted the consultants and doctors as their guardian angels. Different conception and fertilization techniques including IVF and ICSI have now been a much welcomed process.
Dr. Fawaz Edris is a renowned Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (IVF) and Minimally Invasive Surgery. He is an Associate Professor at Umm Al-Qura University, Saudi Arabia and the General Manager at HealthPlus Fertility Center, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Before joining HealthPlus, Dr. Fawaz worked in many reputed medical organizations in Saudi Arabia and Canada, one of which is the International Medical Center in Jeddah, where Dr. Fawaz occupied the position of the Chairman of the Women’s Health Center of Excellence and the Director of the Assistant Reproductive Technology Unit for several years.
Coming to his academics and research works, Dr. Edris received his medical degree (MD) from King Saud University in 1997. He completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of British Colombia, Canada in 2003. He obtained Fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) at the University of Ottawa, Canada in 2005 and a Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Western Ontario, Canada in 2007.
The renowned doctor and consultant published tens of medical papers at peer-reviewed Journals, to name few: (Awareness of Breast Cancer Screening and Risk Factors among the General Female Population in the Western province of Saudi Arabia, Journal of Medical Research and Surgery); (Bowel injury in laparoscopic gynaecological surgery; 19 medicolegal cases, European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology); (Quality of Life among Women with Primary and Secondary Infertility Attending a Private Fertility Center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Journal of Medical Science); (Long-term Clinical Outcomes following resectoscopic Endometrial Ablation of Non-Atypical Endometrial Hyperplasia in women with Abnormal Uterine Bleeding, J Minim Invasive Gynecol). Dr. Edris presented several papers at international meetings, for one of which he received the First Prize Award – USA (2006). Dr. Edris has also published several medical book chapters, and he is also the author of a public education pregnancy book, named (Pregnancy with Ease).
Dr. Edris is a member in several societies such as ‘The Society of Obstetricians & Gynecologists of Canada’, ‘The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’, ‘The American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists’, ‘The International Society of Cosmetogynecology’ and ‘The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery’.
Dr. Edris has been a guardian and advisor for the pregnant women guiding them throughout their pregnancies. Also his incredible contribution towards the society giving new hopes to the infertile sections and complicated pregnancies is noteworthy. For his tremendous work, Dr. Edris has received several international awards to add to his profession. To name some of the renowned ones – ‘Dr. C. Rublee Book Award’ (2003), an award given to doctors who display the highest level of excellence in Obstetrics and Gynecology knowledge in his post graduate years; ‘Dr. Paul Harding Research Award’ (2006); ‘Wyeth-Ayerst Award for excellence in research’ (2006) and The Kurt Semm, M.D. Award, ‘Award for Excellence in Pelviscopy’ (2006), and lately the FAMA Asia-GCC Award for Excellence and Leadership in Healthcare, 2021.
